Southern Georgia
Regional Transit Development Plan
The Regional Transit Development Plan (Regional TDP) will help the Southern Georgia Regional Commission identify long-term goals and needs to inform transit system investments through 2050.
About Transit in Southern Georgia
Currently, residents in 15 of the 18 counties* in the Southern Georgia Region have access to an on-demand, region-wide public transit service. SGRC Regional Transit operates Monday through Friday (between 7:30am until 5:30pm). This transit service offers transit services for trips within the 15-county service area. Trips must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.
In the city limits of Valdosta, residents can reserve rides through Valdosta On-Demand, which operates Monday through Friday (5:30am-9pm). Valdosta On-Demand trips can be scheduled through a phoneline or the Via mobile phone application.

Regional TDP Basics
The Regional TDP will build upon Southern Georgia Regional Commission's 2019 Regional TDP, which was the impetus for the regional transit system that exists today. The new Regional TDP will document conditions and trends impacting mobility in the region, evaluate current transit services, and gather input from residents on issues and concerns. Additionally, the planning process will identify the needs of vulnerable populations, address transit service gaps, and identify opportunities to further facilitate travel between counties.
The Regional TDP will identify a long-term transit vision and goals, extending through 2050. Transit recommendations will be identified for the short-term (next 5 years), mid-term (6 to 10 years), and long-term (11 to 25 years).

Areas of Persistent Poverty Grant
Southern Georgia Regional Commission is funding the Regional TDP with a grant awarded through the Federal Transit Administration’s Areas of Persistent Poverty program. This program supports local and state governments, non-profit organizations, and transit agencies with addressing needs of transit-dependent populations. Through this planning process, Southern Georgia Regional Commission will study communities impacted by environmental injustices and plan for mobility improvements that expand access to jobs, healthcare, and educational opportunities.
